MELLOW IN THE YELLOW
Mellow in the Yellow is an event held by Live Rural, an organisation currently focussed on raising funds to support Australian Farmers and promote them in a positive light. Live Rural aims to bridge the gap between urban and farming communities by establishing an emotional connection through positive awareness. Live Rural actively assists people living in farming communities that are faced with tragedy or harsh times by providing emotional, financial and practical support.
We are incredibly proud that Mellow in the Yellow has to date raised a total of $20,000 for the National Centre for Farmer Health. This incorporates both direct donations, as well as The Farming Women’s Health Workshop series project completed in 2017.
We are also very passionate about opening up conversations around Mental Health amongst farmers and farming communities.
Mellow in the Yellow 2018 was another cracking event, with over 300 attendees celebrating the importance of farmer heath whilst soaking up the spring sunshine. Thank you to our major sponsor CHS Broadbent without whom Mellow in the Yellow would not be as prosperous due to your ongoing support.
Once again, the site looked fantastic thanks to the work of our committee members, in
particular Mick and Peta Watson. Entertainment was provided by local band the ‘Double Agents’ and ‘Stylus DJ-Tim’ who ensured all attendees were grooving on the dance floor. As always, our caterers Sarah’s Kitchen did an amazing job, the food was delicious and as always, Sarah ensured no one was left hungry!
This year we were very fortunate to have Sallie Jones as our guest speaker. Sallie is a dairy farmer from West Gippland who’s family business ‘Gippsland Jersey’ provides many cafes and supermarkets with milk across the state. Her story about farmer health and the affect it has had on her personally with the passing of her father in 2016 was incredibly moving – you could have heard a pin drop. Her speech set the tone for the day, a reminder of how important it is to look out for one another.
2018 was the fifth Mellow in the Yellow. To date, we are extremely proud that the funds raised have contributed to the community through a series of initiatives;
We have facilitated 3 Farming Women’s Health Workshops (90 women attended) as well as Farmer Health Checks in conjunction with the National Centre for Farmer Health. We have trained a total of 42 people in Mental Health First Aid, consisting of agricultural professionals and community volunteers; including sporting club and CFA representatives and representatives from our valued sponsor’s organisations. Mental Health First Aid: Standard Course is a nationally recognised training facilitated by Mental Health First Aid Australia.
Above all, over the years Mellow in the Yellow has enabled hundreds of attendees to have a fun social outing, which has a profound impact on our mental wellbeing.
I would personally like to thank the Mellow in the Yellow committee for all their hard work, the event would not happen without you. Let’s look forward to the 2019 Mellow in the Yellow!
